Title: The Dance Of Simon Tam

Summary: River and Kaylee were the ones who could hear the music of Serenity, and they were also the ones who could hear the music of Simon Tam. 300 words.

River watched the dance a long moment, seeing the steps, there, there, and there, and she joined in seamlessly. She could feel the music, the bright whirl of colors as she spun in time with the dance made her giddy. She couldn't help the laughter that welled up inside her, the smile broad across her face. She caught glimpses of Simon, Mal, Zoe, and Simon's face was bright as he watched her, and then she was dancing for the two of them alone.
Nothing else in this world mattered to her, only her and Simon, and it was the same way when they were back on Serenity, her engines humming like music that only River and Kaylee could hear. Simon's heartbeat was loud in his throat, and River could hear it through her lips as she pressed kisses to his skin. It was like a new kind of dance, and she knew all the steps without having to think, because they were all right there in Simon's head. River and Kaylee were the ones who could hear the music of Serenity, and they were also the ones who could hear the music of Simon Tam. So River danced to the music of his heartbeat until Kaylee's thoughts were loud outside the door, and then she showed Kaylee how the steps of the dance went.
River could hear the music of Kaylee then too, and the three of them fit together like steps in a waltz, smooth and simple. One two three, one two three, step turn step and River was dizzy with the motion of the music. Everything fit so perfectly together, and when the dance was over River kept listening to the music of their hearts as sleep set in, and her dreams were full of brightness and color.
